Standing 150 meters high and nestled in the lush green rainforests on the foothills of Mt. Kilimanjaro, the Materuni Waterfall tour is an ideal getaway for travelers looking to experience local nature and culture near Moshi town. The adventure combines a scenic jungle hike with an interactive traditional coffee-making experience.
Your guide and driver will pick you up from your hotel in Moshi around 9:00 AM for a 45-minute drive to Materuni village. After registration at the village office, your hike begins. Walk for about 45 minutes over narrow paths through lush vegetation and local farms. On clear days you may spot views of Mount Kilimanjaro towering above.
Arrive at the spectacular waterfall for time to rest, take photos, or swim if you're brave enough for the cool mountain water! Afterward, hike back to the village for an authentic coffee experience where local farmers explain how coffee beans are grown, harvested, dried, and roasted. Join in with local songs and dances as you grind your own beans, then enjoy a hot traditional Chagga lunch prepared by the village mamas before returning to Moshi.
The walk takes approximately 45 minutes each way along a winding path through farms and rainforest.
Yes, you can swim in the pool beneath the waterfall, though the water coming straight from Kilimanjaro glacier runoff is quite cold and refreshing!
